• China has experienced a remarkable influx of foreign visitors in 2024, following the easing of visa regulations. In the first half of the year, the country welcomed 14.64 million foreigners, a staggering 152.7% increase from the previous year. This surge is attributed to China’s strategic visa-free policies aimed at boosting tourism and facilitating easier travel.

Beijing, the nation’s capital, saw a significant rise in international arrivals, with 1.02 million foreign visitors, marking a 257% year-on-year increase. The simplified visa procedures have made Beijing a more accessible and attractive destination for tourists and business travellers alike.

The National Immigration Administration reported that visa-free entries accounted for over 8.5 million of the inbound trips, representing a 190% year-on-year increase. This policy has proven effective in attracting tourists, with travellers from countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and Poland now enjoying visa-free stays of up to 15 days for business, tourism, family visits, or transit.

China’s efforts to simplify visa procedures have extended to agreements with more than 40 countries, including mutual visa waivers with over 20 nations. These initiatives have not only boosted the number of foreign visitors but also contributed to a more vibrant and dynamic tourism sector.

As China continues to ease travel restrictions and enhance its visa policies, the trend of increasing foreign arrivals is expected to persist, further solidifying the country’s position as a top global travel destination.
